Alexander Gurning

Alexander Gurning is a remarkable musician.
Of Polish / Indonesian parentage, he was
born in Belgium in 1973 and studied at the
Royal Conservatoire in Brussels where he won
the top prizes and subsequently became
Evgeny Moguilevsky’s assistant for three
years. He studied additionally with Naumov
and Merzhanov at the Moscow Conservatory.
Alexander Gurning has appeared at the Peking,
Sapporo, Schleswig-Holstein, Obidos, Lugano,
La Roque d’Anthéron, Saratoga, Tanglewood
and Verbier Festivals and his discography
includes chamber music with the Soledad
Ensemble (for Virgin Classics), with Renaud
Capuçon (for EMI), and also solo repertoire...
His recording of works by Stravinsky and
Debussy in the EMI series “Martha Argerich
presents” received a CHOC recommendation
from Le Monde de la Musique.
With Sébastien Surel and Sébastien Walnier,
he founded in 2004, the Talweg Trio.
Alexander Gurning has played with Orchestre
National de Belgique, Flanders Radio,
Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestre
Philharmonique de Radio France, Boston
Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra,
under the batons of Alexander Rabinovitch,
Charles Dutoit and Myung-Whun Chung.
