Maestro Avi Ostrowsky was born in Israel in
1939.
In 1961, he finished his studies at the
Rubin Academy of Tel-Aviv, where he studied
privately with Maestro Gary Bertini and
Professor Mordechai Seter.
Immediately afterwards he worked with the
major orchestras of Israel – the Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem
Symphony Orchestra and more.
Later on, he studied with Professor
Hans Swarowsky and graduated from the Music
Academy of Vienna in 1968. He also studied
with Maestro Franco Ferrara in Italy.
In 1968, Mr. Ostrowsky won the FIRST PRIZE
of the Nicolai Malko International
Competition for Young Conductors in
Copenhagen, after which he has been invited
to conduct many orchestras all over the
world.
In 1968, Maestro Ostrowsky became the Music
Director and Chief-Conductor of the Haifa
Symphony Orchestra until 1972. In 1970 he
founded The Israel Kibbutz Orchestra, and
was their Music Director and Chief-Conductor
until 1974. In 1973 he founded the
Sinfonietta of Beer Sheva, where he was
Music Director and Chief-Conductor until
1978. That year he became the Chief-Conductor
of the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra in
Belgium until 1984 and in 1989 he became the
Music Director and Chief-Conductor of the
Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Oslo
until 1993. For the 1998-99 Season Maestro
Avi Ostrowsky was again appointed the Music
Director and Chief-Conductor of The Israel
Kibbutz Orchestra until 2003.
Mr. Ostrowsky has conducted the most
prestigious orchestras around the world,
such as London Symphony Orchestra, London
Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic,
Philharmonia Orchestra of London, BBC
Philharmonic, Amsterdam Philharmonic,
Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, Stockholm
Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, WDR
Sinfonieorchester Köln, Stuttgart
Philharmoniker, Philharmonia Hungarica,
Zagreb Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic,
Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and many more.
He Performed in Austria, Belgium, Croatia,
Denmark, Great Britain, France, Germany,
Holland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Norway,
Rumania, Sweden, South Africa, Turkey, USA
etc., conducting symphony concerts as well
as operas. He has toured with different
orchestras around the world, including a
concert tour with the London Philharmonic
Orchestra to Australia.
